Costa Blanca 41 Club

After two years in the planning over 100 41ers, wives and partners from Algarve, Algarve International Set, Calpe, Costa del Sol, Mallorca and Nerja 41 Clubs and a few 41ers from the UK joined us in Javea for the 2017 Iberian Cluster. Guests of honour were The Association of Ex- Round Tablers’ Clubs National President David Campbell and his wife Pauline and The Association of Tangent Clubs National President Melodie Brookes and her husband Nigel.

The festivities kicked off on Thursday when the delegates were split into three smaller groups for dinner at La Fontana, Posidonia and La Cruerta only a short stroll from the Parador.  All three restaurants did us proud and are certainly worth a visit any time.

After  an excellent breakfast at the Parador on Friday morning we had a fully booked trip to the Enrique Mendoza Winery at Alfaz Del Pi. Phil Fraser was the tour guide having been in charge of all the arrangements in the months running up to Cluster.  The tour was a great success with eight high quality wines to sample accompanied by an excellent tapas lunch.

Friday evening saw us all back at  the Parador when the evening festivities began with a cava reception courtesy of the hotel management and then a superb Spanish themed menu enjoyed by all.  Everyone got into the party mood by wearing red and yellow - some more than others.  We were entertained by Jose Manuel and his Flamenco Dancers - what energy!  After the performance Jose played his guitar for a short while and some folks danced and other just listened to the music to bring the evening to a close.

November

After a late night at the bar Saturday dawned for the serious bit.  Not really the AGM went well under the Chairmanship of our Chairman Keith with no controversial topics raised under AOB!  The suggestion proposed last year in Portugal that Malta be invited to join the Iberian Group of Clubs (to be discussed by clubs during the year) was withdrawn by both the proposer (Calpe) and seconder (Nerja). National President David gave an update on things ‘National’ with all the business completed in just over an hour.

10.30 am Saturday 4th November 2017 - Ready for Business

While the lads were at their AGM the girls attended an interesting presentation by Kathy Thomas entitled Funky Baglets followed by an opportunity to buy some of those early Christmas presents!

After a free afternoon to help re-charge the batteries Saturday evening got underway with another Cava Reception prior to the final function of the weekend our Gala Dinner and Ball.  The formalities were kept to a minimum and after another excellent dinner Cluster 2017 was brought to a close in fine style by party band Gatecrash.

Cluster 2018 is being hosted by Costa del Sol 41 Club and the venue is the

 Gran Hotel Guadalpin Banus.
